How does Calf Reduction Botulinum Toxin Work?
Botulinum Toxin involves injecting a chemical called botulinum toxin, into the calf, where it can block signal transmission between the muscles and the nerves.
With the blockage of the signal transmission, the muscle contraction is reduced and overtime, the muscle undergoes a process called disuse atrophy whereby the muscle bulk size shrinks – thereby giving a slimming effect.
Botulinum Toxin is injected into the calf muscle using extremely tiny needles.
The sensation feels like small ant bites.
Before injection, Dr. Edwin will discuss with you the dosage and points of injection for the best results. He will map out the areas to be injected after determining the size of the muscle bulk.
It’s crucial to know that your calf muscles will still continue to function as per normal. You are still able to continue your normal activities of daily living and exercises after the treatment.
Usually, this treatment takes about 30 minutes and the results of calf slimming will appear gradually over the next 1 month
Is Calf Slimming Botulinum Toxin Treatment Painful?
Numbing cream will be applied to the area just before injecting Botulinum Toxin for calf reduction to minimize discomfort.
Whilst the thought of injections may be scary for Botulinum Toxin first-timers, good hands, and proper injection technique will significantly reduce pain and discomfort.
How many units of Botulinum Toxin is needed for Calf Slimming?
Calf reduction generally needs 80 to 100 units of Botulinum Toxin per calf, i.e 160 to 200 units of Botulinum Toxin in total.
The dosage required is determined by the size of the calf muscles of the patient and Dr Edwin will be able to advise accordingly after examining the muscle bulk in clinic during consultation.
What can I Expect after Calf Slimming Botulinum Toxin Treatment?
After treatment, small Botulinum Toxin “bumps” may be observed at the injection sites.
These “bumps” will disappear in 2 to 4 hours and patients are advised not to apply pressure on these bumps.
Some patients may experience small bruises or muscle aches.

When can Calf Reduction Botulinum Toxin Results be Seen?
Calf Reduction Botulinum Toxin results will be seen after 1 month as time is required for the calf muscles to shrink in size.
Results last between 4 to 6 months.
